U-Mary Sails South for Matches Against #6 Wayne State and #21 Augustana

This Week: The University of Mary Volleyball team heads south for matches against #6 Wayne State College on Friday, October 23, and #21 Augustana University on Saturday, October 24.

The Records: The Marauders (9-12, 4-8 NSIC) returned home for their annual Dig Pink Weekend against Upper Iowa University and Winona State University but couldn't pull off the win in either match. U-Mary responded well when Minot State University came to town, however, as the Marauders snapped their six-game losing streak with a four-set win over their rivals from the north. The Wildcats (18-3, 10-2 NSIC) are on a six-game winning streak after defeating St. Cloud State University, University of Minnesota Duluth, and Augustana University in the previous week and haven't lost a match since they fell in four sets to Concordia University, St. Paul. The Vikings (14-6, 7-5 NSIC) fell to Minnesota Duluth but rebounded against St. Cloud State, yet ultimately fell to Wayne State earlier in the week as they have struggled against ranked opponents throughout the season.

History: U-Mary has one win in 14 matches against the Wildcats with the lone victory coming in 2008 in Bismarck. Since then, Wayne State has won nine straight matches with the Wildcats ranked in eight of them. The Marauders have yet to win a match against Augustana University as they have been swept in 11 tries against the Vikings with Augustana earning the decision last year in Bismarck.

Last Week: The Marauders returned to Bismarck as they hosted Upper Iowa University and Winona State University for their annual Dig Pink Weekend. U-Mary had the lead through the majority of the first set and had the Peacocks on the brink with a 24-22 lead needing only one point for the set, but the Peacocks tied the set at 24-24 and eventually won the set 27-25. The Marauders were going strong in the second set but ultimately lost after Upper Iowa scored four straight points to close the set and U-Mary never recovered as they fell in the final set. The Marauders struggled to get the offense going against Winona State as they fell in straight sets once again, but a visit from Minot State changed everything as U-Mary hit .228 as a team as they snapped the skid with a 3-1 win over the Beavers
