Turner Scores Career High 27 but Marauders Fall to Vikings in OT, 93-83

BISMARCK, N.D. - A career night from Sloan Turner, combined with double digit points from Hannah Larson, Brittney Dietz, and Dani Clarke, wasn't enough for the University of Mary Women's Basketball team as the Marauders fell 93-83 in overtime to Augustana College.

The Marauders held a six point lead in the waning minutes of the second half, but a stout Viking full court press turned the tide and the Marauders eventually fell in the extra frame.

U-Mary had to employ the press breaker as the Vikings kept the pressure up in the early goings of the game, but after trading a few baskets back and forth, the Marauders wound up on top 11-6 by the first media break. The easiest way for the Marauders to break the press was by finding the player on the interior and that's exactly what they did as Turner leveraged her inside strength through most of the game.

Turner had 17 points in the first half alone, and she was crucial in the Marauder's offensive gameplan. Keeping the Vikings at bay, U-Mary held a 24-16 lead by the second media break and maintained that cushion as they were up 32-26 by the third media break.

Augustana finished out the first half strong, but the Marauders wouldn't let go of their grip on the lead and stayed ahead 39-37 at the half.

The second half turned into a fierce battle between the teams as neither could build a lead past five until the final media break rolled around.

The Marauders held on to a 73-65 lead over Augustana with 2:18 left on the clock, but the Vikings scored the next four points to close in at 73-69. Larson kept the Marauder's point total moving with two free throws, but Augustana came right back with six more points to knot the score at 75-75 with 38 seconds left on the clock. Larson netted two more free throws but a Viking layup with 32 seconds left meant the game was headed to overtime.

In the extra frame, the Vikings fired off a quick 6-0 run and turned a close fought game into a runaway as the Marauders couldn't get the offense in gear and eventually fell 93-83.

Turner set a new career high with 27 points on 11-of-16 shooting from the field and a perfect 5-of-5 from the line, and also recorded her second double double in a row as she grabbed 12 rebounds. She also finished with two blocks in the game in her 35 minutes on the floor.

Larson finished the game with 21 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the field. She also added eight rebounds, four assists, three blocks, and a steal in 33 minutes played.

Dietz just missed out on her second double double of the season but still ended the game with 14 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and four steals, as she ended playing all 45 minutes of the game.

Dani Clarke returned from injury tonight and she was back to her old self as she finished with 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc. She also added two rebounds and one assist in 24 minutes as she got the call from the bench.

The Marauders (8-13, 6-9 NSIC) will host #23 Wayne State College tomorrow night for their annual Military Appreciation Weekend.
