Marauders Host St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth for Alumni Weekend

This Week: The University of Mary Women's Basketball team returns to Bismarck for their annual Alumni Weekend games starting with contests against St. Cloud State University on Friday, January 23, and University of Minnesota Duluth on Saturday, January 24.

The Magic Number: With only 13 points to go, Brittney Dietz is nearing a milestone that only 14 players in Marauders history have accomplished. She currently sits at 987 points for her career after last week, putting her 16th on the all-time list and if she can maintain her average then she should crack 1000 points against St. Cloud State.

The Records: U-Mary (7-11, 5-5 NSIC) faced Winona State University and Upper Iowa University on the road in the previous week and the Marauders came back empty handed after losing to the Warriors and Peacocks, 70-65 and 74-60, respectively. St. Cloud State (10-6, 6-6 NSIC) stumbled on the road last week as well when they fell to Augustana College and Wayne State College, 79-70 and 82-63, respectively, and have lost five of their last six games in conference. Minnesota Duluth (8-8, 6-6 NSIC) also fell to Wayne State 91-53 but bounced back with a 73-68 victory over Augustana.

Last Week: The Marauders jumped out to an early lead on the Warriors with a 14-6 run to begin the game, but Winona State proved their resiliency as they methodically fought back and eventually stole the game away from U-Mary, 70-65. Sloan Turner recorded her second double double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds in her 29 minutes played, but her stellar performance couldn't stop Winona State even after the Marauders climbed to within two points at 40-38 with about 15 minutes left in the game. Dietz also finished with 17 points and added four rebounds and four steals in her time on the court, but the Marauders could not find an answer for the Warriors. U-Mary then took on Upper Iowa in Fayette, Iowa, the next day, and Hannah Larson returned to form with 28 points and nine rebounds.. The Marauders kept the game close in the first half but the Peacocks pulled away in the second as U-Mary couldn't get within 11 through the remainder of the game and eventually fell 74-60.

History: The Marauders are closely matched with both St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth. U-Mary is 5-6 all-time against the Huskies and ended a three game losing streak last year to St. Cloud State last year in Bismarck. U-Mary is also 5-5 against the Bulldogs and the Marauders have won the last three meetings between the teams.

Next week: U-Mary will stay home next week to take on Augustana College and Wayne State College to finish the four game homestand. The Vikings will pay a visit on Friday, January 30 before the Wildcats stop by the McDowell Activity Center on Saturday, January 31.
