U-Mary Women Hold on for 71-67 Win Over Bemidji State

Box Score Bemidji, Minn.—The University of Mary women's basketball team (13-8, 11-7 NSIC) took advantage of Bemidji State University's (8-14, 4-14) miscues Saturday night as they came away with a 71-67 win in Northern Sun action. U-Mary finished with nine steals and forced a total of 14 BSU turnovers, which led to 19 points for the Marauders.
 
U-Mary shot 20-of-60 to BSU's 20-of-59 from the field. Both teams finished with 41 rebounds and the Marauders held a plus two-turnover margin.
 
Linda Murray led all scorers with 25 points. Murray added nine rebounds and two blocks.
 
Morgan Lee and Kate Warmack each scored 14 points to lead the Beavers.
 
U-Mary jumped ahead to a 10-3 lead off of two McKenzie Foster threes and two Linda Murray lay-ups. BSU chipped away and tied the game at 19-19 with 11:05 left until half. The Marauders responded with an 11-2 run sparked by five points from Brittney Dietz to take a nine-point lead. U-Mary built its lead to as many as 12 before heading into break leading 39-29.
 
The Marauders were dominant on the glass in the first half outrebounding the Beavers 28-19. Both teams had seven first half turnovers, but U-Mary held a 10-2 advantage in points off of turnovers.
 
The Marauders built their lead to 11 early in the second half as Foster nailed a three-point basket to give U-Mary a 47-36 lead. The Beavers replied with an 11-3 run to pull within three with 11:42 left to play. BSU battled and eventually took a 60-58 lead with 3:40 remaining. The teams exchanged leads, with the Beavers tying the game at 65 with 1:02 left to play. Murray scored on the ensuing possession and BSU turned the ball over with 27 second left. The Marauders went 4-of-4 from the line in the final seconds to seal a 71-67 win.
 
U-Mary shot just 8-of-26 in the second half, but were able to hold on due to a 14-of-14 performance from the free throw line. The Marauders were 25-of-28 overall from the line marking their best free throw shooting performance of the season.
 
Next weekend will be U-Mary's final home weekend as it hosts Southwest Minnesota State University on Friday and University of Sioux Falls on Saturday.
