This Week: The University of Mary Volleyball team (4-23, 1-17 NSIC) closes out their conference schedule with their final two home matches of the season. Winona State University will pay a visit to the McDowell Activity Center on Friday, Nov. 7, and Upper Iowa University comes to town on Saturday, Nov. 8.
The Records: Winona State is 18-6, 13-5 NSIC; last week they swept Upper Iowa, Northern State and MSU-Moorhead in straight sets. Upper Iowa is 11-15, 6-12 NSIC; last week they lost in straight sets to Winona State, pulled out a five set victory over MSU-Moorhead, and lost a five set thriller to Northern State.
History: The Marauders lost to Winona State in straight sets back on Sept. 20. The Marauders are 2-11 all-time against the Warriors, with a 1-4 home record. Upper Iowa got the upper hand against U-Mary back on Sept. 19, and swept the Marauders in three hard fought sets. U-Mary is 4-10 all-time against the Peacocks, with a 2-4 home record.
Last Week: U-Mary lost to Minot State in straight sets on Oct. 28. Kelsey Boyd led the Marauder attack with seven kills, 22 attacks, four digs and a block assist. Janell Finkbeiner was billed as the primary setter and finished with 16 assists and seven digs, while Alex Brown anchored the back line with 21 digs. The Marauders then faced two tough back-to-back tests with Minnesota State sweeping U-Mary on Oct. 31 and #3 Concordia-St. Paul winning in straight sets on Nov. 1. Boyd again led the Marauders against the Mavericks with nine kills, 29 attacks, six digs and one ace. Brianne Murray had a great game as well with 12 assists and five aces; her serving performance was tied for fourth best all-time in Marauders NCAA D-II history. Boyd was also active against the Golden Bears with five kills, 25 attacks, five digs, and one block assist.
