NAMPA, IDAHO – The Marauders had plenty of chances to gain the edge over Northwest Nazarene, but couldn't connect as they fell to the Crusaders 2-0 in a Great Northern matchup.
U-Mary came out of the gates looking to gain an early advantage over the Crusaders.
Brad Kelly had a good look at 8:38 but Northwest Nazarene's goalkeeper saved his shot.
Jonathan Sellars had the next opportunity for the Marauders at 19:31 but his shot was saved as well.
After a few more exchanges, the Crusaders got on the board first at 42:23 after a cross was initially punched away by
Michael Frenzel, but Michael Mollay would corral the rebound and put the ball in the back of the net for a 1-0 advantage. Northwest Nazarene carried the lead into halftime.
The next best chance for U-Mary came in the 51st minute. After a few shots ended high over the net, Kelly had a shot saved at 50:24 but the rebound went to
Christoffer Nogueira and had a shot go high just a few seconds later.
Aaron Brennan got in on the action after the crossbar saved his shot at 53:36.
The Marauders had another chance at 55:57 with a corner from Kelly but nobody could capitalize. Northwest Nazarene ended up extending the lead at 72:30 after Erik Anderson took a pass and beat Frenzel in a one-on-one. After the Crusaders went up 2-0, the last opening for U-Mary came at 82:16 when
Jack West had a shot saved by Northwest Nazarene's goalkeeper. The Crusaders coasted from there to a 2-0 victory.
Nine different Marauders got their foot on the ball with at least one shot, while Kelly, West, and Sellars were the only ones with a shot on goal. Frenzel ended up with six saves in 90 minutes of action but it wasn't enough to keep U-Mary in the match.
The Marauders (2-4-1, 1-4-0 GNAC) begin a four game home stand on Thusday, October 9, when they host Western Washington in another GNAC match.
