Volleyball Splits, Picks up First Win of Season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Great Falls, MT--The University of Mary volleyball team (1-3) picked up their first win of the season on Saturday with a 3-1 win over the University of Great Falls at the Great Falls/Carroll College Holiday Inn Classic. U-Mary rounded out their road trip falling to Montana State University-Northern 3-0 to finish the tournament with a 1-3 record.

Against Great Falls (4-8), U-Mary dropped the first set 23-25, but rallied to win the next three. The Marauders dominated the final three frames winning 25-17, 25-13, and 25-18.

Junior Morgan Dake stole the show with a career-high 14 kills on just 20 attempts and just two errors for a .600 hitting percentage. Freshman Alex Brown had a game-high 17 digs. Alexis Jacobs was the only player to finish with double-digit kills and digs recording 13 and 10 respectively. Janell Finkbeiner had a game-high 23 assists, the most of her young career.

As a team U-Mary outhit Great Falls in all four sets. For the game the Marauders held a .198 to -.040 advantage in hitting percentage. The Marauders held a 41-25 advantage in assists and a 47-33 edge in digs.

MSU-Northern (10-5) had U-Mary's number finishing them off in three sets. The Marauders fell 19-25, 14-25 and 20-25.

Jacobs had a team-high eight kills to go with 10 digs. Brown added 12 digs and Finkbeiner finished with 18 assists.

The Marauders were outhit .337 to .129.

U-Mary will be back in action next weekend as they head to North Carolina to participate in the Mount Olive Tournament. The Marauders will take on Armstrong Atlantic State University on Friday Sept. 13, and finish up with the University of Alabama in Huntsville and host school Mount Olive College on Saturday.
