Box Score 2 Helena, MT—The University of Mary volleyball team opened the 2013 season at the Great Falls/Carroll College Holiday Inn Classic. The Marauders opened with host school #25 Carroll College falling 3-0. U-Mary took on Montana Tech in the nightcap also falling 3-0.
U-Mary will be back in action tomorrow as they take on the University of Great Falls at 11 a.m. The Marauders will conclude their trip against Montana State University-Northern
Carroll College (23-25, 19-25, 23-25)
U-Mary jumped out early on 25th ranked Carroll 7-2 by way of a 7-0 run. The Saints climbed their way back into the game, but the Marauders held tough as the set was knotted at 23. Carroll scored the final two points to take the first set 25-23.
Tied 6-6 in the second, the Saints took control of the set from there with an 8-0 run and built their lead to as many as 11 en route to a 25-19 win.
Trailing 20-13 in the third, U-Mary rallied to score four straight points to close the gap to three. The Saints were able to hold off the Marauders for a 25-23 win.
Paige Smith hit .300 and posted a game-high nine kills.
Allison Adams hit a team-high .385.
Emily Turkowski had a team-high 15 assists and
Alex Brown tallied a team-high 11 assists.
The Marauders actually outhit the Saints .163 to .105, but had 18 ball handling errors to Carroll's 11.
Montana Tech (24-25, 23-25, 18-25)
Montana Tech jumped out to an earlier 9-3 lead in the first set and extended their lead to as much as seven at 12-5. The Marauders went on a 12-5 rally capitalizing on several Orediggers' errors to tie the set at 17-17. After exchanging scores U-Mary won four of the next six points to take a 22-20 lead, The lead did not last long, however, as the Marauders dropped the first set 24-26.
The second set was a back-and-forth and U-Mary took a 20-19 with a
Lauren Boldt kill assisted by Turkowski. Back-to-back errors by the Marauders gave the Orediggers a 21-20 lead as they held on for a 25-23 victory.
The score was knotted at nine in the third set before an 8-0 Tech run gave the Orediggers a 17-9 lead as they went on to win 25-18.
Alexis Jacobs led the Marauders with seven kills and Boldt was next in line with six. Finkbeiner led U-Mary with 14 assists and Brown paced the Marauders with 11 digs.
Tech outhit U-Mary .239 to .080 and had just 12 errors to the Marauders 20.
