Box Score Minot, ND – Opening the season against one of the conference favorites, the University of Mary women's soccer side earned a 0-0 tie at Minot State University. While the Marauders and Beavers generated several scoring opportunities in the two extra sessions, neither squad could manage a goal.
The Marauders nearly ended the game late in the first extra period but a header attempt by U-Mary's all-region striker
Alex Bachman-Williams hit the post with less than a minute to play. U-Mary generated the only two recorded scoring attempts of the opening overtime.
Minot State posed most of the pressure in the second session, but U-Mary goal keeper
Shelby Buttron came up with three big saves, including a scramble that resulted in her being knocked to the turf late in the game.
Bachman-Williams had one more chance in the final seconds but her attempt was blocked by the Beavers defense.
According to reports, the Marauders had the best scoring opportunities in the opening half.
Andrea Muller hit the crossbar and two other shots were tipped over the net by Beavers keeper Gemma Biasetto.
Playing in just her fifth career game for the Marauders, Buttron was credited with nine saves. This was her first career shutout.
Bachman-Williams paced the Marauders with six shots, including two on frame. Erika Lynch led MSU with three shots on frame.
Overall U-Mary had an 18-16 edge in shots attempted while MSU held a 9-7 advantage in shots on goal.
After advancing to the NCAA tournament last season, the Beavers were picked to finish third in the Northern Sun while the Marauders were chosen seventh.
The opener for both schools, the Marauders and the Beavers are 0-0-1 overall and in NSIC action.
U-Mary next plays at Southwest Baptist University on September 10.
