Box Score Minot, ND—In search of their first conference win of the season the University of Mary (3-7, 0-3 NSIC) fell to Minot State University (6-6, 2-1) on Tuesday night. After dropping the first set, U-Mary rebounded to win the second, but Minot State was too strong down the stretch winning in four.
Alexis Jacobs finished with a team-high 13 kills and hit .344. Not to be outdone, the Beavers' Jenn Dixon finished with 14 kills and hit .357. Dixon also added a team-high 11 digs.
The Marauders came out strong in the first set with a kill by Jacobs to from
Janell Finkbeiner to take a lead at 1-0 that they would not relinquish. The Marauders led by as many as eight en route to a 25-18 win. The Marauders fell down early in the second and were never able to catch up. The Beavers cruised to a 25-18 win.
The third set was a struggle as well for U-Mary falling behind 8-3 early on. From their MSU extended their lead to as many as 11 winning the set 25-14. In the third set UM was outhit .393 to .120. The Marauders made things interesting in the fourth set actually taking a lead at 15-14. That lead was short lived, however, as the Beavers went on a 4-1 run lead to take a three point lead and they did not look back holding on for a 25-21 win.
U-Mary continued to prove they are one of the top blocking teams in the conference finishing with 18 block assists and one block solo. Laruen Boldt and Allison Adam each finished the match with five block assists. Boldt also added a block solo.
Emily Turkowski finished with her second 20 plus assist game of the season and
Allison Opp with her second double-digit kill performance.
Minot State outhit U-Mary .296-.233 and had a 56-39 advantage in kills.
U-Mary will be back in action on Saturday as they are on the road against Augustana College at 7 PM
