Mustangs Race Past Marauders 2-0

Box Score Marshall, MN – One day after setting a season-high for goals, the University of Mary women's soccer team was held scoreless in a 2-0 loss at Southwest Minnesota State University. It was the first Northern Sun loss of the season for the Marauders while the Mustangs have won all three of their league contests.

Justine Hauck tallied both goals for the Mustangs. She opened the scoring in the 16th minute when she found a loose ball in front of the Marauders net and drove it home. Less than three minutes out of intermission Hauck would double the Mustangs advantage, scoring at the 47:15 mark of the game.

The Marauders (1-4-1 overall, 1-1-1 NSIC) offense was bottled up much of this hot and windy day by the Mustangs (6-0-0, 3-0-0). U-Mary managed six shots, including five on frame, during the match.  In the second half the Marauders only recorded one shot attempt. Both Alex Bachman-Williams and Mykala Benjamin had two shots on frame for U-Mary.

SMSU peppered the Marauders with 17 shots, including 10 after intermission. Nine of the Mustangs shots were on frame. The Mustangs also held an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks.

Shelby Buttron made seven saves for the Marauders to keep U-Mary in the game. She has recorded seven or more saves in four of her five starts this season.

The Marauders make their first regular season home appearance on Friday, September 27, when U-Mary hosts Upper Iowa University at the MDU Resources Bowl.
