Bismarck, ND—Facing No. 18 Minnesota State University (2-0, 2-0 NSIC), the University of Mary (0-2, 0-2 NSIC) battled early, but ultimately fell 30-12 in its home opener.
With MSU leaving 133 open, U-Mary took an early 12-6 lead when All-American
Trevor Johnson (149) pinned Weston Droegmueller in the second period. Johnson started fast with an early takedown and was leading 8-1 prior to the pin. With the win, Johnson now improves to 11-1 this season and has won eight consecutive matches.
With the Marauders holding a 12-9 lead,
Brock Krumm (165) took on No. 1 Cody Quinn. Behind three takedowns, Krumm found himself within striking distance at 6-7 late in the third period. After a Quinn escape Krumm nearly tied the match with a takedown, but ultimately fell 8-6.
Brandon DeLao (157) and
Jonah Westbury each gave strong individual efforts as well. Trailing 4-3 heading into the third period DeLao fell 7-4. In his first collegiate match, Westbury (285) dropped a 3-2 decision.
