Sioux Falls, SD—Opening the conference season Thursday night, the University of Mary (0-1, 0-1) fell 38-6 against Augustana College (5-2, 1-0) in NSIC wrestling action.
Trevor Johnson and
Brock Krumm picked up the Marauders only points each winning their matches by decision.
U-Mary was only able to field eight of 10 positions for its first dual of the season. The Marauders were unable to field a wrestler at 197 and 285 spotting the Vikings a 12-0 lead.
Johnson, who was named an All-American in 2012, picked up a 3-2 decision over Shawn Hatlestad of Augustana. Making the transition from 141 his first two season's at U-Mary, Johnson is ranked seventh in the nation and improves to 10-1 on the season with his only loss coming against Nick Dardanes from Division I Minnesota.
Ranked eight in the region at 165, Krumm was the only other Marauders wrestler to pick up a win. Krumm did so with a 7-5 decision over Parker Swanson. With the win Krumm moves to 7-6 on the season and has now won four of his last five matches.
John Devito wrestled the Viking's Tim Weber even at 174, but fell 3-1 in sudden victory one.
U-Mary will be in action next as they host Minnesota State on December 21st at 1 p.m. The Marauders invite all fans to come early and take pictures with Santa Claus who will be available beginning at noon.
