U-Mary Grapplers Open Conference Season at Augustana

After competing in four open meets, this is the first dual for the Marauders this season

THIS WEEK: The University of Mary wrestling team will open the 2013-14 conference season on Thursday at 7 p.m. against Augustana College in Sioux Fall, S.D. 

SCHEDULE CHANGE: U-Mary will not compete at the Husky Open on Saturday as previously scheduled.

THE RECORDS: U-Mary has competed in four opens, but will participate in its first dual of the season on Thursday. Augustana is 4-2 in duals this season with both its losses coming Division I's Air Force and South Dakota State.

RECENT HISTORY: The Marauders have lost to the Vikings each of the last four years. U-Mary fell 27-16 against Augustana last season at home. Both Trevor Johnson and Brock Krumm won their matches individually last season.

THE OPPONENT: Ranked No. 8 in the region, the Vikings are offf to a strong start and as a result are receiving votes in the national poll. Augustana was busy last week copeting in two duals and one open. The Vikings won 17 of their 20 matches in their duals against Dakota Wesleyan and Northerwestern (Iowa) Augustana placed three wrestlers at the Dragon Open, including Tanner Taylor who won the 184-pound title. Both 197 Jayd Docken and  184 Sean Derry are ranked nationally at their respective weights. Five total Augustana wrestlers are ranked in the Super Region 3 ranking, with three receiving the top spot.

SO FAR THIS SEASON: U-Mary has competed in four open meets. Trevor Johnson, ranked seventh in the nation at 149, has placed in both opens he has participated in, including a title at the Cobber open.

UP NEXT: U-Mary will host its first home dual on Dec. 21 as Minnesota State comes to town. The Marauders and Mavericks will square off at 1 p.m. at the McDowell Activity Center. Beginning at noon,  there will be Santa present to take pictures and visit with children. There will be hot chocolate and candy canes available.
