Box Score Sioux Falls, SD—Struggles continued for the University of Mary volleyball team (4-20, 1-16) as they fell to the University of Sioux Falls (17-10, 8-9) in Northern Sun action Friday night. USF defeated U-Mary in three sets 25-20, 25-20, 25-17.
Janell Finkbeiner paced the Marauders with team-highs in assists and digs with 23 and 11 respectively.
Alexis Jacobs led U-Mary with nine kills.
For the Cougars, Emily Johnson had a game-high 10 kills to go with four digs.
Overall, Sioux Falls outhit U-Mary .234 to .080 as it held a 37-28 advantage in kills, despite having seven fewer attempts. The Marauders finished with a three-set season worst 25 attack errors on the night.
The Marauders had their best chance to take a set in the first. Allowing USF to build its margin to five at 19-14, U-Mary responded with a 5-0 run sparked by two Allison Adam kills to tie the set at 19-19. The Cougars went on to take six of the next seven points for a 25-20 win in the first set as they set the tone for the match.
In the second set the Marauders stuck around trailing by just one as late as 16-15. However, a 4-0 run by the Cougars grew their lead to five and the Marauders were unable to overcome the deficit as they fell 25-20. With a commanding 2-0 lead heading into intermission, Sioux Falls cruised to a 25-17 win in the final set.
It won't get any easier for U-Mary tomorrow as they take on #8 Southwest Minnesota State at 3 p.m.
