#8 Mustangs Gallop Past Marauders

Box Score Marshall, MN—Facing its fifth opponent ranked among the top 10 in the nation, the University of Mary fell to #8 Southwest Minnesota State in Northern Sun volleyball action Saturday afternoon. U-Mary was swept by SMSU 25-10, 25-21 and 25-9.
 
Alexis Jacobs led the Marauders (4-21, 1-17 NSIC) in kills and digs with 7 and six respectively. Janell Finkbeiner assisted on 19 of U-Mary's 20 kills.
 
Southwest Minnesota State's Abby Thissen was a force upfront finishing with 16 kills while hitting a career-high .667.
 
Southwest Minnesota State (20-6, 15-3 NSIC) hit a season-high .427 to U-Mary's .036.  The Marauders finished with just 24 digs to the Mustangs 42.
 
Trailing 6-3 in the first set, U-Mary allowed an 11-0 run by SMSU to go down 17-3 as they went on to fall 25-10.
 
The Marauders came out swinging in the second set exploding to a 9-2 lead keyed by three service aces, two of which came from Alicia Ewen. SMSU chipped the lead down to three at 15-12, before scoring eight of the next nine points to take a 20-16 lead. The run was too much for the Marauders to overcome as they fell 25-21.
 
The Mustangs rebounded from the slow start in the second jumping ahead to a 14-4 lead in third as they eventually went on to win the set 25-9 and the match 3-0.
 
The Marauders will be at home next weekend as they host their final two games of the season. U-Mary will host Wayne State College on Friday at 7 p.m. and Augustana College on Saturday at 6 p.m.
