Box Score Winona, MN—A rough night offensively proved costly for the University of Mary volleyball team as they were swept by Winona State University. U-Mary (4-18, 1-14 NSIC) hit just .088 for the match as it fell 19-25, 16-25, 19-25 in Northern Sun action Friday night.
Lauren Boldt continued her strong play from last weekend finishing tonight with a team-high 12 kills, while hitting .308. Boldt now has 28 kills in her last 10 sets while hitting .234.
The Warriors (9-15, 6-9) had a balanced offensive attack with five different players finishing with six kills or more. That group was led by Kylea Roeglin's nine kills on just 16 attempts.
For the match Winona State outhit U-Mary .229 to .088. WSU held a 59-51 advantage in digs, while UM had a decisive 11 to six edge in blocks.
The Marauders never led on the night, but hung tough in all three sets. Down 17-11 in the first set, they battled back to within two at 21-19, but dropped the final four points. In the second set the U-Mary trailed 10-5, but went on to score five of the next seven points to bring the set to 12-10, but the Winona State went on an 8-1 run before pulling way for a 25-16 win. In the final set the Marauders were down 13-7 before rattling off five straight points to close the gap to one at 13-12. Again the Warriors pulled away however, as it won the set 25-19 and the match 3-0.
U-Mary will be back in action at Upper Iowa University tomorrow at 3 p.m.
