Golden Goal by Benjamin Drives Marauders Past Dragons

Bachman-Williams posts two goals, assist in win

Box Score Bismarck, ND – Mykala Benjamin sprang loose for the game-winning counter in overtime and Alex Bachman-Williams tallied twice plus added a helper on the golden goal as the University of Mary nudged MSU Moorhead 3-2.
 
Forced into overtime when the Dragons scored twice in the final eight minutes of regulation, the Marauders won their final home game of the season just 3:43 into the extra session. Megan Searson sent the ball forward to Bachman-Williams, who nudged the ball off her head to Benjamin breaking past the defenders on the left side. The sophomore from Kent, WA, buried the ball in the net for her first game-winning goal of the season.
 
Bachman-Williams scored the first two goals of the game. Playing the last home game of her career, the senior headed in a corner kick from Emily Christensen in the 32nd minute. The Minot, ND, native doubled the Marauders lead at 50:47 when she captured the rebound from a Michelle McGeary blocked shot for her ninth goal of the season.
 
With one game left in her career, Bachman-Williams moved into fifth on the Marauders career goal-scoring list with 37.
 
Winless on the season, the Dragons roared back to square up the game on two goals in quick succession by Cara Zastrow. She served a corner kick into the net in the 83rd minute and tied the contest 2-2 on a blast from 25 yards out at the 87:47 mark.
 
The Marauders dominated the game statistically, holding edges in shots (31-14), shots on target (13-7) and corner kicks (12-5).
 
Shelby Buttron posted five saves for the Marauders. Ashley Leintz had 10 for the Dragons.
 
U-Mary improves to 4-10-3 overall and 4-7-3 in Northern Sun play. MSUM slips to 0-16 and 0-14.
 
Eliminated from Northern Sun tournament consideration today despite the win, the Marauders close out the 2013 season at Northern State University on Sunday, November 3. Game time is 1 PM.
