5th Ranked Mavericks Bounce Marauders

Box Score Mankato, MN – Allowing an early goal against one of the nation's top teams proved too much for the University of Mary women's soccer team to overcome. Fifth-ranked Minnesota State University, Mankato scored less than four minutes into the game and added three more counters in a 4-0 Northern Sun win over U-Mary.

One of the leading scorers in the league, Minnesota State's Korey Kronforst scored the first of her two goals on the day only 3:52 into the contest.

The Marauders hopes of carrying a one-goal deficit into intermission were dashed in the 42nd minute when Jessica Bowe doubled the Mavericks lead on a ball she bounced off the crossbar.

Kronforst scored her ninth goal of the year in the 66th minute. MSU closed the scoring with 8:17 left in the game.

Andrea Muller and Mykala Benjamin both had two shots in the game to lead the Marauders offensive efforts.

As a team U-Mary attempted 11 total shots with three on frame. Homestanding Minnesota State blitzed the Marauders with 39 shots, including 16 on target. The Mavericks held an 8-3 edge in corner kicks.

Splitting time in net, Shelby Buttron made seven saves and allowed one goal while Bailey Wenz stopped five shots.

After playing eight of their first ten games on the road, the Marauders begin a four-game home stand when St. Cloud State arrives for a 1 PM match on Oct. 12.
