GAME NOTES
THIS WEEKEND: The University of Mary women's soccer team closes out the 2013 regular season with a home-and-away weekend. The Marauders host MSU Moorhead at 3PM on Friday, November 1, at the MDU Resources Bowl in U-Mary's final home game of the season. U-Mary concludes the season on the road against Northern State University in Aberdeen SD, on Sunday, Nov. 2. Game time is set for 1 PM.
THE RECORDS: The Marauders enter the weekend with a record of 3-10-3 overall and 3-7-3 in the Northern Sun. U-Mary is tied for 11th in the NSIC with 12 points... The MSUM Dragons are winless on the season in 15 games, including 13 NSIC contests, and are last in the league standings... The NSU Wolves are 8-7-1 and 5-7-1 in the NSIC, holding onto ninth place in the league standings with 16 points and fighting for the 8th and final playoff slot.
LAST WEEK: After a 5-0 loss at regionally-ranked Bemidji State University to open last weekend, the Marauders closed with a 0-0 scoreless draw at the University of Minnesota Crookston.
SNAPPED: For the first time since 2000 and for only the third time in program history the U-Mary women's soccer team will post a losing record. Since the program was established in 1995, U-Mary has finished below .500 three times in 19 seasons: 1995, 2000 and 2013.
11:
Alex Bachman-Williams is tied for 11th among active NCAA players with 35 career goals. She is the only player from the Northern Sun listed.
12: With 81 career points on 35 goals and 11 assists,
Alex Bachman-Williams is ranked 12th among active players. She is tops among NSIC players.
0-0: The Marauders 0-0 scoreless draw was the second for U-Mary this season. The Marauders opened the year with a 0-0 tie at Minot State University in the first game of the season. Prior to this season the last scoreless game for the Marauders was against Winona State University in 2010. The only other scoreless game for the Marauders since joining the NCAA in 2006 was in the 2009 Northern Sun tournament.
PLAYOFF POSSIBILITIES: Holding onto Northern Sun tournament hopes by a slim thread, the Marauders could post a maximum of 18 points in the conference standings with a pair of wins this weekend and finish eighth at best. However, should any of the three teams ahead or currently tied with U-Mary reach 19 points the Marauders are eliminated. Either Minot State or Northern State, who face each other Friday in Minot, ND, can knock the Marauders out with a win. Should that game end in a draw, and if St. Cloud State doesn't win at Minnesota Crookston, the Marauders post-season fate won't be finalized until Sunday, the final day of the regular season. Â
FRESHMAN FORCE: Midfielder
Michelle McGeary has become an offensive weapon for the Marauders in her first season for the squad. The freshman from Gillette, WY, is second on the team with three goals and eight points. McGeary also is second in shots attempted (28).
LEADERS: Junior keeper
Shelby Buttron is among NSIC leaders in several categories. The native of Olathe, KS, is fourth in saves (86), fifth in saves/game (6.14), and ninth in shutouts (three). The NSIC Goalkeeper of the Week a week ago has a goals against average of 1.85 and a save percentage of .769.
LEADERS II: Senior
Alex Bachman-Williams in 9th in the Northern Sun in goals (7) and tenth in goals per game (.47).
PLAYOFF RUN: A member of the Northern Sun since the 2006, the Marauders have earned a conference tournament berth all seven seasons. Â
35: As
Alex Bachman-Williams enters her final regular season weekend with U-Mary, she is tied for fifth on the Marauders all-time career goal scoring list. The senior forward from Minot, ND, now has 35 career goals to pull even with Kate Theisz (1996-98). The Marauders all-time leader is school Hall of Famer Nicole Benedict (2002-05) with 66.
