U-Mary Overmatched by #1 Concordia-St. Paul

Box Score Bismarck, ND—Facing the #1 team in the country, the University of Mary volleyball team knew they would have their hands full hosting Concordia University-St. Paul. The Golden Bears offense proved to be too strong as they swept the Marauders (25-14, 25-16, 25-12) in Northern Sun action Saturday evening.
 
CU outhit U-Mary .547 to .183 for the match. Concordia-St. Paul had 49 kills on just 75 attempts. With the Golden Bears offensive proficiency, the Marauders attempted their fewest attacks of the season with 71, 25 of which were converted for kills.
 
U-Mary's Lauren Boldt took advantage of the teams limited attempts converting eight kills on just 17 attempts for a .294 hitting percentage.
 
Emily McDonough was an offensive force for Concordia-St. Paul finishing with 12 kills on just 16 attempts for a .688 hitting percentage.
 
After dropping the first set 25-14, the Marauders responded with a strong start in the second set. U-Mary found itself trailing by just two at 11-9, but CU took six of the next seven points to open its lead to seven. The Marauders responded by scoring the next two points, but the Golden Bears pulled away for a 25-16 win. Offensively U-Mary performed well in the second set hitting .219, but with limited attempts only managed 10 kills.
 
The Marauders hit the ball well in the final set as they at a .278 clip. Unfortunately, their defense only managed two digs allowing the Golden Bears to convert on 18 of 22 attempts as they cruised to a 25-12 win to take the match 3-0.
 
U-Mary will be in action next as it begins a stretch of four consecutive road games, beginning with Winona State on Friday Nov. 1.
