Box Score Bismarck, ND—A slow start by the University of Mary volleyball team led to their demise as they fell to Minot State University (9-12, 5-7 NSIC) Tuesday night. A poor performance in the first set by the Marauders was too much to overcome as they were swept by the Beavers (8-25, 20-25, 23-25).
Lauren Boldt led U-Mary (4-15, 1-11 NSIC) in kills with six.
Minot State's top offensive performer was Jen Dixon. Dixon finished with 11 kills, while hitting .391.
The first set was controlled by the Beavers as they outhit the Marauders .296 to .000. Minot State scored the first point of the match on an attack error by U-Mary and ran away to a 25-8 win.
The Marauders effort was much improved in the second and third set as they actually outhit the Beavers in the third set .114 to .081.
Trailing by as many as five early in the second set, U-Mary went on a 5-0 run late in the set to take 19-18 lead. Minot State responded with a 5-0 run of its own however, as the Marauders fell 25-20.
Down early in the third the Marauders were able to bring the set to a tie at 20-20 scoring three straight points sparked by a pair of blocks. However, a Minot State timeout slowed the U-Mary momentum as the Beavers scored the next three points forcing a Marauders timeout. Scoring the first point out of the timeout, U-Mary committed two consecutive errors as they dropped the set 25-23.
U-Mary will be back in action on Friday as they take on the Minnesota State University-Mankato at 7 PM. Due to a scheduling conflict the match will be played in town at Century High School located at 1000 E Century Ave. Tickets will be sold at the gate and all season-tickets will be honored.
