Big Plays by Bachman-Williams, Buttron Keys Marauders Draw with Vikings

Box Score Bismarck, ND – Closing our Senior Weekend in spectacular fashion, Alex Bachman-Williams scored twice to give the University of Mary women's soccer team a 2-2 tie against Augustana. The U-Mary senior scored four times on the weekend as the Marauders picked up four points in the Northern Sun standings with a win and a tie.

After Augie (8-5 1 overall, 6-4-1 NSIC) scored just 3:40 into the match, Bachman-Williams knotted the contest 4:08 later. After her initial header was blocked by the Vikings defense, the Minot, ND, native won a scramble inside the six and drove the ball home for her seventh goal of the season.

The Vikings snared a 2-1 lead in the 29th minute on Maren Werth's second goal of the game and 13th this year.

It took nearly 40 more minutes before the Marauders (3-9-2, 3-6-2) would again pull even. Taking a pass from Emily Christensen, Bachman-Williams eluded defenders at the top of the six and knocked the ball into the right corner for her 35th career counter. She is sixth all-time in goals scored at U-Mary.

Both teams had chances to win late in the game and in overtime. With less than ten seconds left in regulation, Katie Hurd of Augie took a shot from distance that forced Marauders goalkeeper Shelby Buttron to leap and punch the ball over the cross bar to preserve the tie. Early in the second overtime Bachman-Williams placed a header just over the cross bar.

Bachman-Williams took seven shots in the game with three on frame. Also busy was Michelle McGeary as the freshman had nine shots with three on target.

Buttron was tremendous for the Marauders, posting 11 saves in the game, including four in the second overtime. Ashley Limmer had six saves for Augie.

The Marauders attempted 20 shots with eight on target while the Vikings had 19 and 13. U-Mary had a slight 5-4 edge in corner kicks and was called for 12 fouls to six for Augie.

U-Mary is next in action at Bemidji State University on Oct. 26.
