GAME NOTES
THIS WEEKEND: The University of Mary women's soccer team will have a busy next few days as the team holds its Breast Cancer Awareness game on Friday and celebrates the team's seniors and the player's parents throughout the weekend. U-Mary hosts Wayne State College on Friday, Oct. 18, at 7 PM. A four-game home stand concludes on Sunday, Oct. 20, against Augustana at noon. Both games will be played at the MDU Resources Bowl.
BREAST CANCER AWARENESS GAME: The University of Mary women's soccer team is holding its Breast Cancer Awareness Game on Friday, Oct. 18. Team members are currently selling pink breast cancer awareness bracelets for $3 each. Proceeds from the sale will go the Bismarck Cancer Center. The team is creating a tribute video to show at intermission and will wear pink jerseys during the game. The match is set for 7 PM at the MDU Resources Bowl against Wayne State College.
SENIOR AND PARENTS WEEKEND: The Marauders will honor parents of the players throughout the weekend and plan to recognize the squad's four seniors and their parents prior to the Wayne State game on Friday, Oct. 18.
THE RECORDS: The Marauders enter the weekend with a record of 2-9-1 overall and 2-6-1 in the Northern Sun. U-Mary is 12th in the NSIC with seven points... The Wildcats are 1-10-1 and 1-7-1 for four points in the NSIC... The Vikings are 8-4 and 6-3 in the NSIC to tie for 6th with 18 points.
LAST WEEK: The Marauders suffered a pair of tough NSIC home losses, dropping a 3-2 double-overtime game against St. Cloud State before suffering a 4-0 loss to Minnesota Duluth.
4: The Marauders are in the midst of their longest home stand of the year. After playing eight of their first ten games on the road, U-Mary's stretch of four home games ends on Sunday.
CLOSING TIME: With just six games remaining, historically this is time of the year when U-Mary plays its best. Always a strong second half club, the Marauders are a combined 30-12-6 over the last six seasons in the final eight scheduled games of the year. The Marauders finished on a 6-2 run last season, went 5-2-1 in 2010 and 2011, 4-3-1 in 2009, 5-2-1 in 2008 and 7-1 in 2007.
PLAYOFF RUN: A member of the Northern Sun since the 2006, the Marauders have earned a conference tournament berth all seven seasons. Â
HEARTBREAK: The Marauders suffered a heartbreakimaraudersng 3-2 double overtime loss against St. Cloud State on Oct. 12. In a matter of seconds, U-Mary went from potential winners to a loss. On a breakaway in the opening minute of the second overtime,
Mykala Benjamin blasted a shot off the crossbar. The Huskies collected the rebound, countered and scored seconds later to break a tie in the league standings.  Â
31: With her game-winning goal at Concordia-St. Paul,
Alex Bachman-Williams moved into a tie for sixth on the Marauders all-time career goal scoring list. The senior forward from Minot, ND, now has 31 career goals to pull even with Jazellle Williams (2001-04). Next on the list is Kate Theisz (1996-98) with 35 goals. The Marauders all-time leader is school Hall of Famer Nicole Benedict (2002-05) with 66.Bachman-Williams became the ninth U-Mary player to reach 30 career goals earlier this season and the first to do so solely during the school's NCAA era (2006 and on).
THANKS SENIORS! The four Marauders seniors will be honored this weekend:
Quin Glaser (forward, Bismarck, ND),
Kaitlin Walsh (defender, Jamestown, ND),
Dayna Domingo (midfielder, Pearl City, HI) and
Alex Bachman-Williams (midfielder, Minot, ND). Glaser has appeared in 29 matches in her career, including two starts this season, and is majoring in mathematics... A team captain, Walsh moved to defense as a junior and has started every game for U-Mary the past two seasons. A member of the NSIC All-Academic Team, she has scored four goals and added three assists in her career and is majoring in occupational therapy... Domingo is a four-year starter and earned All-NSIC honorable mention honors as a sophomore in 2011 when she scored a goal and distributed seven assists. The Elementary Education major has five goals and 12 assists in her career... Sixth on the Marauders career goal-scoring chart with 31 counters, Bachman-Williams has twice earned All-Region recognition (NSCAA and Daktronics), earned All-Northern Sun honors three times (2nd team twice and honorable mention). An all-academic team selection, she is majoring in respiratory therapy.
