U-Mary Swept by #2 Minnesota Duluth

Box Score Bismarck, ND—The grind of the Northern Sun continued for the University of Mary volleyball team as they took on their third opponent ranked among the top 10 in the country in as many weeks. U-Mary played strong in the first set, but was ultimately swept by #2 University of Minnesota Duluth (18-1, 8-1 NSIC).
 
Again Alexis Jacobs paced the Marauders offensive attack finishing with a team-high 11 kills. Jacobs also added a team-high eight digs.
 
Reigning NSIC Player of the Year, Kate Lange lived up to the bill, finishing with 19 kills while hitting .441.
 
The Marauders spotted the Bulldogs a 7-1 lead in the first set and trailed by as many as eight at 19-11. A U-Mary timeout led to a 4-0 run closing the gap to five. The run was too little too late as UMD took the first set 25-17.
 
In the second set Minnesota Duluth proved worthy of their #2 ranking cruising to a 25-10 win and outhitting U-Mary .481-.000.  In the third set the Marauders improved hitting .172, but the Bulldogs attack was too strong as they took the set 25-14 and the match 3-0.
 
For the match U-Mary was outhit .424 to .110. The Bulldogs doubled the Marauders with 46 digs and had a 7-2 advantage in blocks.
 
U-Mary (3-13, 0-9 NSIC) will be back in action at Bemidji State University on Oct. 11 at 7 PM.
