Slow Start Dooms Marauders

Box Score Bismarck, N.D. – Trailing by nine at half time, the University of Mary was unable to overcome their early deficit as they fell 76-69 to St. Cloud State University. The Marauders scored first, but the Huskies answered with a three-point basket and lead the rest of the way.
 
Shaunna Knife had another outstanding all-around performance for the Marauders. Just one rebound shy of her ninth double double of the season, Knife scored 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds. The senior from Bottineau also had four blocks and two assists on the night.
 
St. Cloud (14-4, 10-4 NSIC) was ignited by the play of Lexy Peterman. Coming off the bench and playing just 11 minutes, Peterman had a team-high 15 points on 10-10 shooting from the free-throw line.
 
The Huskies bench came up big outscoring the Marauders 31-15.
 
St. Cloud came out hot in the first half shooting 55 percent from the field and making five of their eight attempts from beyond the arc. The Marauders trailed by as many as 11 in the opening period and made just one three-point shot (1-5). Despite Knife's 13 first half points and six rebounds U-Mary entered the break trailing 39-30.
 
Both teams struggled to shoot the ball in the second half each shooting 32 percent. Despite the Marauders making 12-14 free throws in the second half, the Huskies held a distinct advantage in attempts (28) and makes (21).  U-Mary was able to bring the game to within a basket five different times and actually brought the score to within one, but were never able to take the lead as they went on to fall 76-69.
 
Ali Collins was the second leading scorer for the Marauders finishing with 17 points, 12 of which came in the second half. Collins also added eight rebounds, seven assists and three steals. Britney Dietz scored nine points off the bench and Shanara Clark added eight.
 
With the lost the Marauders (13-7, 8-6 NSIC) now sit at sixth place overall in the Northern Sun. U-Mary will be in action on Friday night as they host Minnesota State University – Mankato at the McDowell Activity Center.
