Tough Draw Leads to a Pair of Setbacks

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Spearfish, SD – Facing a tough draw on the first day of the Black Hills State University Tournament, the University of Mary was swept in its two matches of the day. Undefeated Colorado Christian University defeated the Marauders 3-0 (25-12, 25-13, 27-25). In a nonconference match between Northern Sun members, Augustana posted a 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-18) win over U-Mary.

Despite a tremendous effort in defending the net against the Cougars (6-0 overall) attack, the Marauders (0-5) had a difficult time generating any offense. Behind seven block assists by Allison Adams, U-Mary was credited with nine blocks. Offensively, the Marauders were credited with only 17 kills to 33 for the Cougars.

Allison Opp, who led U-Mary with six kills in the first game, recorded 10 kills against Augustana (4-3). It is her second time reaching double digits in kills this season in five outings. Lauren Boldt picked up eight kills.

The Marauders had 28 kills overall to 36 for the Vikings. The biggest difference was that Augie committed only seven attack errors to 15 for U-Mary.

U-Mary concludes the BHSU tournament today with matches against Chadron State College and the host school.
