Volleyball Set to Play Four Games in Two Days

LAST WEEK: The University of Mary Marauders volleyball team went down to Fayette, IA, to participate in the Upper Iowa Tournament. U-Mary fell to Lake Superior State 3-0 to open the season (8/31). They followed the next day with a hard fought 3-2 loss to South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. The Marauders closed up the weekend with 3-0 loss to host school Upper Iowa University.

THIS WEEK: This weekend the Marauders will head to the Black Hills State Tournament in Spearfish, SD. On Friday (9/7) they will open up with Colorado Christian, who is 3-1 on the season after a strong showing in the Aggies Challenge this past weekend. Later that day U-Mary will take on Augustana (SD) who is off to a 3-1 start after participating in the Vulcan Classic over the weekend. The Marauders will finish up the weekend on Saturday (9/8) against Chadron State College and host school Black Hills State, who both participated in the Northern State Invitational and finished with identical 1-3 records.

LAST YEAR: The Marauders did not participate in this tournament last year, but did face Chadron State in a different tournament and fell 3-1 in Kansas City, MO.

NEW FACES: U-Mary lost five players from last year's squad but added three freshman that will be able add depth and height up front. Joining the Marauders this fall are MB Paige Smith (Jordan, MN), OH Alexis Jacobs (Bismarck, ND) and MB Anna Iverson
(Beulah, ND).

FAMILIAR FACES: The Marauders will look to their seniors; MB Brianna Smith (Culver City, CA), DS Valerie Lesu (Waipahu, HI) and S Hailee Walsh (Bismarck, ND), for valuable leadership and experience. Despite having just three seniors Marauders have many players with experience as they return eight rotation players from last year in MB Allison Adams, OH Allison Opp, MB Morgan Zabel, OH Lauren Boldt, S Hailee Walsh, S Emily Turkowski, OH Morgan Dake and DS Valerie Lesu.

ON DECK: The Marauders will begin a five game home-stand next Friday (9/14) as they open up Northern Sun play against the University of Minnesota-Crookston. Last year U-Mary fell to Crookston 0-3. On Saturday (9/15) they will host Bemidji State University who they beat last season 3-1. Saturday will also be parents night.
