Last week the Marauders dropped a pair of conference road games. Heading in the weekend undefeated in conference play, U-Mary started with Winona State. Falling 2-0, the Marauders offense stalled taking just seven shots on day. U-Mary's offense stalled again the following day as they fell 2-0 to Upper Iowa. The Peacocks jumped out to an early lead with a goal in the 4th minute and did not look back.
This week U-Mary will host a pair of conference home games. First up for the Marauders will be #6 Minnesota State (9/29), who is undefeated in conference play. Rounding out the weekend will be Concordia-St Paul (9/30). Both games are set for 1 PM at the Community Bowl.
OFFENSIVE STALL: This past weekend the Marauders offense was held scoreless on the road. U-Mary has been shutout four times this season, with two of them being this past weekend.
HOME AGAIN: The Marauders are hoping to continue their home success. On the year U-Mary is 3-0 at home in NSIC action. Over the last three years the Marauders are an impressive 15-3-4 at home. In five home games this season U-Mary has only allowed six goals.
MAVERICKS STREAK: On Saturday (9/22) the Mavericks extended their home unbeaten streak to a school-record 18 consecutive games with a 6-0 win over Northern State. MSU is 10-7-2 on the road during this streak.
MSU (6-1-1, 5-0 NSIC) is currently sitting alone atop the Northern Sun and riding a four game winning streak. Minnesota State has outscored their opponents by a staggering 27-5 margin. The highest scoring team in the league, Mavericks appear to be firing on all cylinders as of late. Entering this weekend, Mankato is on a three game streak that has seen them score five more goals in each of them while not allowing a single goal. MSU's offense is led by four senior who have all scored 10 or more points. All-NSIC senior F Nicole Dooher is leading the league in assists (7) and points per game (2.6). Keying the defensive efforts for the Mavericks has been the steady play of sophomore GK Molly McGough. McGough has only allowed one goal in conference play and is coming off of an All-NSIC honorable mention freshmen campaign. Minnesota State has never lost to U-Mary in six games fielding a 4-0-2 all-time record. Last season the Marauders fell 4-1 to the Mavericks.
CU (4-3-1 ,3-1-1 NSIC) is currently tied for fourth in the NSIC. The Golden Bears are the second highest scoring team in the conference, but have only outscored opponents 17-14 on the year. CU is riding a three game winning streak the includes a par of wins over Moorhead and Northern State last weekend. Concordia's offense is spearheaded by 2011 NSIC first teamer Amanda Olsen. The senior forward has scored three goals and added five assists in conference play. Multiple goalies have seen time so far this year for the Goldenbears. The Marauders have never lost to Concordia holding an impressive 10-0-1 lead in the all-time series. Last year U-Mary won by a score of 3-1.
Up next for the Marauders will be a pair of road tests. Next weekend U-Mary will take on the University of Minnesota Duluth (10/6) and St Cloud State University (10/7). Last year the Marauders defeated the Bulldogs 2-1 in double overtime. U-Mary lost a heart-breaker to the the Huskies 3-2 in overtime last year.
