Offensive Outburst by Dake, Opp Still Leaves Marauders Short

Box Score Bismarck, ND – Allison Opp and Morgan Dake both posted 11 kills for the University of Mary but a solid offensive performance by the Marauders fell short in a 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-21) loss at home to Upper Iowa University.

U-Mary hoped to extract a little revenge from an early season non-conference loss at Upper Iowa but the Peacocks posted a stellar .306 hitting percentage in pulling off the sweep. The Marauders hit a combined .234, making just 13 attack errors while connecting for 39 kills.

In just 20 attacks, Dake was able to terminate 11 balls to hit .400 on the night. Opp, in addition to her 11 kills, also registered one solo and two assisted blocks.

As a team, the Marauders combined to make nine team blocks. The Peacocks managed four. Paige Smith contributed a team-high one solo and three assisted blocks.

Smith and Allison Adams both had six kills for the Marauders.

Emily Turkowski distributed 30 assists and added two aces and six digs. She also helped out on two blocks.  Valerie Lesu led all players with 15 digs.

Melanie Behnke paced the Peacocks with 13 kills. Kayla Wagner added 11 on just 17 attempts with only one error.

After a five-game homestand to open Northern Sun play, the Marauders head south to play at Augustana and Wayne State College next weekend, September 28-29.
