Marauders Offense Sharply Curtailed in Loss to Warriors

Box Score Winona, MN – In a defensive struggle between two teams undefeated in conference play, the University of Mary was unable to find the net in a 2-0 loss at Winona State University. The loss drops the Marauders one game out of first place in the conference standings, behind the Warriors and Minnesota State University.

The Warriors (5-2 overall, 4-0 NSIC) limited the Marauders (3-3, 3-1) to just seven shots on the day, including five shots in frame. Winona State generated 18 shots with nine on net, Marauders keeper Ashley Akers was busy all day, making seven saves.

Samantha Fegan scored in the 22nd minute to provide the Warriors an advantage that wouldn't fade away, taking a shot from 25 yards out that found the back of the net.

Winona State would seal the contest in the 81st minute when CoCo Sames scored right out front off a pass into the box from Katy Soliday.

All-conference performers Michelle Jones and Alex Bachman-Williams generated most of the Marauders scoring opportunities. Jones had four shots, including three on frame. Both of Bachman-Williams shots were on net.

In addition to the edge on shots, WSU also held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.

U-Mary will finish off the weekend with a match at Upper Iowa University in Fayette, IA, on Sunday, September.
