Boldt, Opp Lead Marauders to Sweep of Beavers

Box Score Bismarck, ND – After breaking through for the team's first win of the season in its last outing, the University of Mary picked up a second straight win tonight. Behind strong offensive performances by Lauren Boldt and Allison Opp, the Marauders swept Minot State University 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-18) in Northern Sun volleyball action.
 
Boldt hammered home 13 kills and Opp added 12 for a Marauders team that posted a season-high hitting percentage of .278. Opp connected at a rate of .381 and Boldt checked in at .292. U-Mary combined for 35 kills and made just 13 attack errors.
 
Defensively the Marauders limited the Beavers to a -.028 hitting percentage. U-Mary posted six team blocks and Minot State collected just 28 kills while committing 31 attack errors.
 
Tied at 11-11 in the opening set, the Marauders slowly began to pull away before closing with a 9-3 rush. Keying part of the run was consecutive aces by Emily Turkowski pushing U-Mary ahead 21-16.
 
The second set followed a similar path. Leading 16-15, the Marauders closed on a 9-1 run to take a 2-0 lead into intermission. Hailee Walsh served the last six points for U-Mary. Following a block by Allison Adams and Turkowski, Adams would follow with two straight kills. Three straight hitting errors by Minot State would give the set to U-Mary.
 
The Marauders jumped out to an eight point lead in the final set before the Beavers closed the gap to 19-16. After Boldt hammered home her final kill of the night, U-Mary would score its final five points of the night on attack errors by MSU which included two blocks by the Marauders.
 
Turkowski dished 28 assists on the night. Valerie Lesu led U-Mary with 14 digs.
 
Mallory Sall led MSU with nine kills and seven assists.
 
The Marauders continue a five-game home stand when Winona State University, which is receiving votes in the national poll, comes to town for a match at 7 PM on September 21.
