Muller Scores Marauders Lone Goal in Exhibition Loss to Saints

Helena, MT – Sophomore forward Andrea Mueller tallied the lone counter of the day for the University of Mary as the Marauders dropped a 4-1 decision to Carroll College in exhibition play. The Saints, ranked 25th in the NAIA, scored twice in the final five minutes of play to pull away. For the Marauders, it was their second exhibition game less than a week after opening training camp.

The Marauders, who had their first practice on Monday, August 13, opened exhibition play with a 3-2 loss at Rocky Mountain College on Friday.

Carroll College started the scoring in the 14th minute when Crista Saur recorded the first of her three goals for the Crusaders. The Marauders deficit increased to two goals when Rachell Kuntz found the net at 53:18.

Saur sealed the game with two goals in a span of 34 seconds, both off assists from Macie Netz. Her second goal of the game occurred at 85:48 and she secured the hat trick at 86:21.

A West Fargo, ND, native, Muller put U-Mary on the board in the 88th minute. She led the Marauders with three shots, including two on goal. Michelle Jones attempted two shots.

The Saints held a 14-7 advantage in shots with an 8-5 edge in attempts on frame.

LATE FRIDAY
In a tremendous collegiate debut, freshman Sabra Bertsch scored a goal and assisted on another in a 3-2 U-Mary loss at Rocky Mountain College in the first of two exhibition games for the Marauders. The forward from Bismarck, ND, who played for U-Mary Head Coach Sarah McNulty at Century High School, assisted on the Marauders first goal of the day and later scored unassisted to even the game.

Just 4:13 into the match, Jones converted a pass from Bertsch for a 1-0 Marauders lead, scoring in the bottom left corner.

The Battlin' Bears scored the next two goals, pulling even in the 29th minute before taking a 2-1 lead at 55:13.

With the ball loose in front of the net, Bertsch tapped the ball in at 67:45, knotting the game at 2-2.

Homestanding Rocky would pull out the win when Kristy Montignani drove the ball into the left corner of the net at 83:14. She also had an assist on the Battlin' Bears first goal of the game.

RMC held a 14-5 advantage in shots, an 8-4 edge in shots on goal and had a 5-3 lead in corner kicks.

With the team's two exhibition games now in the books, U-Mary next will scrimmage at the University of Great Falls (MT) on August 21. The Marauders host Minot State University in the regular season opener on September 2.
