Marshall, MN –
Trevor Johnson, ranked fourth in the nation at 141, earned a major decision win but the University of Mary could only cobble together two more individual wins in a 21-10 loss at Southwest Minnesota State.
Brady Anderson and
Collin Engelhardt picked up the other two Marauders victories.
Trailing 6-0 after two matches, Johnson dominated Ethan Hildebrandt 12-3 to claim the major decision and pull U-Mary within two points. Every other match of the day was a three-point decision. Johnson improves to 25-5 with the win.
In his first match of the season,
John Amundson looked primed for a win after gaining a 7-4 lead, but the Mustangs Codie Lane would rally for an 11-9 decision at 149.
It took overtime but Engelhardt garnered a 3-1 win at 157 to again pull the Marauders within two points at 9-7.
The Mustangs would begin to take control of the match with two close wins at 165 and 174 to build a 15-7 win.
Needing three straight wins to pull out a dual victory, Anderson put the Marauders back on the board with a 5-1 decision at 184 over Andrew Rodas. The junior is now 15-6 on the season.
Southwest Minnesota State halted any U-Mary hopes for a win by claiming wins at 197 and 285.
