Seniors Headline Marauders Victory Over Beavers

Minot, ND – Six straight individual wins spearheaded by all three seniors in the University of Mary lineup led the Marauders to a 28-16 win over Minot State University. In the first-ever Northern Sun match between the two in-state rivals, All-American Trevor Johnson recorded a pin and seniors Landon Della Silva, Collin Engelhardt and Brady Anderson claimed wins.
 
After the Marauders opened with a forfeit win at 125 when the Beavers left the weight class open, Minot State captured the first match decided on the mat. Joshua Davis earned a major decision over Hunter Menendez 8-0 at 133 but U-Mary still led 6-4.
 
Ranked third in the nation at 141, Johnson doubled the Marauders point total with a pin of Cody Carpenter at 4:30, the first of six straight individual wins for U-Mary. Johnson rolled up a 12-1 lead before finishing off Carpenter early in the third period.
 
In a shootout at 149, Della Silva claimed a 13-8 win over Marcus Wilson. Trailing 8-6, a reversal and a near fall in the final period propelled Della Silva to victory.
 
Engelhardt followed with a defensive win for U-Mary at 157. After a scoreless opening stanza, te Bismarck, ND, native used an escape and a takedown to garner a 3-2 win over Jon Wilson.
 
Brock Krumm earned the Marauders first major decision of the night, rolling past Jean Augustin 10-2. The sophomore from Bismarck, ND, grabbed an early lead in the 165 bout and boosted the Marauders lead to 22-4.
 
Forced to forfeit at 174, the Marauders kept up their dominance on the mat with an Anderson 7-6 win over Cody George at 184. Tied at 5-5 in the final period, Anderson broke the deadlock on a takedown with just 40 seconds left in the match. George managed to close within a point on an escape but Anderson held on for the win to clinch the U-Mary win.
 
The Marauders claimed a sixth straight win when John Devito rolled past Jack Murphy 10-6 at 197.
 
Minot State finished the night with a win at 285 when Bob Bartz pinned Levi Roemmich at 1:22.
 
After winning its first dual of the season, U-Mary is 1-0 overall and in the NSIC. Minot State is 1-1 and 0-1.
 
U-Mary returns to competition at the Husky Open, hosted by St. Cloud State University, on December 8.
