Box Score St. Cloud, Minn. — The University of Mary continued their offensive woes as they fell 3-0 (17-25, 7-25, 22-25) to St. Cloud State.
Paige Smith was the Marauders most consistent offensive player with five kills and a .500 hitting percentage.
Allison Butler paved the way for the Huskies (9-18, 5-14 NSIC) with a game-high nine kills.
In the first set U-Mary tied things up at 9-9 on an ace by
Emily Turkowski. Three Marauders errors in a row, however, left them trailing 12-9 and forced them to call a timeout. The two teams exchanged points followed by a 3-0 run by U-Mary to tie the game at 13. A kill by the Huskies gave them the lead at 14-13 and they did not look back as they went on to win the set 25-17.
The Marauders came out flat in the second as the Huskies went on a 10-1 run to open the set. U-Mary was never able to regroup as they fell 25-7 and went into intermission down 2-0.
The third set saw the Marauders fall down early again at 5-1. U-Mary was able to claw their way back into the game and came within one at 14-13 after a kill by
Morgan Dake. The Huskies answered back and opened up their lead to four at 20-16. U-Mary was not going to lie down, however, as they rallied back and tied the set at 21 on a kill by
Morgan Zabel. Down the stretch the Huskies were able to stave of the Marauders as they won the set 25-22 and the game 3-0.
Turkowski finished with a game-high 25 assists.
The defensive load for the Marauders was split as five players finished with three or more digs.
U-Mary (3-22, 3-15 NSIC) will wrap-up their season tomorrow night as they face off against #5 Minnesota Duluth.
