Box Score Lakeland, FL –
Alex Dorr posted his second straight double double and the University of Mary dominated the boards but an overabundance of miscues allowed Saint Joseph's (IN) College to sneak past the Marauders 65-64. The non-conference clash was the first of two U-Mary games at the FSC Ledger Media Group/Terrace Hotel Classic.

Dorr hauled down a career-best 15 rebounds and added a team-high 17 points. The U-Mary senior forward was coming off a 20 point 14 rebound effort in a win over Mayville State. Dorr hit three treys and nailed all four free throw attempts.

Marauders (1-2 overall) held a huge 41-24 rebounding edge but the gains on the glass were more than offset by U-Mary's 23 turnovers. The Pumas (1-2) committed just 10 miscues and held a 21-13 advantage in points off turnovers.

Down by 12 early in the second half, the Marauders used a 20-5 run to grab a 57-55 lead on a Dorr layup with 4:56 remaining in the game.
Josh Turner scored eight points during the run and Dorr seven to push U-Mary ahead.

The Marauders moved ahead by four but couldn't maintain the lead, missing four straight shots from the field and three of four free throws while the Pumas surged ahead.

After a DJ Martinez basket halved the Marauders lead, Damon Ellison, Jr., pulled the Pumas even at 61-61 with 1:32 left in the contest. SJC then hauled down a rebound after a Turner miss and Ellison gave the Pumas a lead with 47 seconds remaining. After another U-Mary miss, Ellison hit one of two free throws with 28 seconds left to increase the lead to 64-61.

The Marauders cut into their deficit to two with 16 second remaining when
Noah Stewart made one of two free throws. Ellison had a chance to seal the win for the Pumas but went 1-of-2 at the line at 00:14 to leave the difference at three points.

With a final chance to force overtime, a three point attempt by Dorr was deflected.
Marc Musungayi put back the loose ball for the Marauders as time expired.

Musungayi just missed a double double of his own, scoring 10 points and grabbing nine rebounds. He had two blocks and was 5-of-6 from the field. Turner added 16 points, nailing three treys.

Ellison came off the bench to score 19 points for the Pumas, making 8-of-11 shots. Dayvon Sloan added 14 points and Maiscel had 10 in a reserve role.
