Box Score Bismarck, ND – Going into the game, the Marauders knew they would have their hands full with the third ranked University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs. Despite a formidable team effort, the Marauders fell in three games (25-13, 25-13, 25-17).
Morgan Dake lead the Marauders in kills (7) and hitting percentage (.333).
The Bulldogs (16-1, 7-1 NSIC) were led on the night by Kalli Lochner, who recorded a game-high 14 kills while hitting an impressive .622.
A back and forth beginning to the first set put the game at 6-6. A service error by the Marauders (2-13, 2-6 NSIC) led to a 5-0 run by the Bulldogs. U-Mary would not be deterred, as they were able to close the gap to 15-13. Another service error by the Marauders led to a Bulldogs run, this time 6-0 to put the score to 20-13. U-Mary was unable to comeback from this run as they dropped the first set 25-14.
The Marauders struggled early in the first set trailing by as much as seven. A kill by
Paige Smith sparked the Marauders to a run of their own. A block by
Allison Opp and Smith closed the gap to one at 11-10. UMD proved to be too strong as they held off the Marauders comeback and went on to win the set 25-13.
In final set U-Mary got down early again and could not close the gap. After trailing 10-5, the Marauders were never able to close the margin to less than five. U-Mary did, however, manage to keep the score close as they fell 25-17.
The game saw a myriad of service errors by both sides as each team finished with 11. At one point in the game UMD and U-Mary exchanged service errors on four consecutive serves.
The Marauders will look to snap their five-game losing streak tomorrow night as they host the Saint Cloud State University Huskies (6-10, 2-6 NSIC). Last year SCSU defeated U-Mary 3-2 in Saint Cloud. First serve will be at the McDowell Activity center at 6 p.m.
