Marauders Fall Short in NSIC Tournament Opener

Box Score Minot, ND – Unable to overcome a two-goal deficit in the first half, the University of Mary women's soccer season came to a close today with a 2-1 loss at Minot State University in the opening round of the Northern Sun / US Bank tournament. The loss snapped the Marauders six-game winning streak.

The Beavers tallied twice before the Marauders managed to get into a groove. Just 5:29 into the match Zoe Fisher turned a U-Mary defensive lapse into a Minot State goal. After an initial save by goalkeeper Ashley Akers by the left post, Fisher was able to gather her rebound and knock the ball into an open net when no Marauders defenders were able to provide help.

Minot State doubled its lead in the 21st minute when Tara McPartland headed the ball into the goal off a corner kick by Fisher.

The Marauders cut into the deficit when Alex Bachman-Williams blasted home a goal from 30 yards out in the 61st minute. It was the junior's team-leading ninth goal of the year.

Despite a couple more scoring chances the Beavers defense held the Marauders off the board the rest of the night.

Busy in goal all game, Akers finished with nine saves for the Marauders in the senior's final game.

MSU held an 18-11 edge in shots and had an 11-6 advantage in shots on frame. The Beavers also posted eight corner kicks to just two for the Marauders.

The Marauders finish the year 10-8. The Beavers are 14-3-2 and advance to play top-seeded Minnesota State University in the semifinal round of the Northern Sun tournament.
