Last week U-Mary was on the road for a pair of conference games. First off for the Marauders was Augustana College. Unable to get much going offensively, U-Mary fell to Augustana in three games. Next up for the U-Mary was #18 Wayne State. The Marauders offensive attack was much stronger, but they fell 3-0.
NSIC LEADERS: The Marauders as a team are averaging 2.48 blocks/set in Northern Sun play good for second most. Freshman MB Paige Smith is third in the NSIC with 1.36 blocks/set in conference play and 51st in the NCAA for the season. Senior DS Valerie Lesu is fifth in conference play with 4.57 digs/set.
Inside the Numbers: Some may have noticed that sophomore OH Morgan Dake has worn the #16 in some matches in addition to her regular #11. Dake will wear #16 in white and #11 in both orange and blue. In three games wearing #16, Dake has recorded 14 kills while hitting .282. In her most recent performance in the #16 Dake hit a season high .600 with six kills.
This week the Marauders will begin a four game conference home-stand. U-Mary will begin their four game home-stand against #3 University of Minnesota Duluth (10/5) and finish up with St. Cloud State University (10/6).
UMD is off to a 15-1 (6-1 NSIC) start this year. The Bulldogs are currently ranked third in this weeks AVCA Coaches Poll. Minnesota Duluth is led by 2011 AVCA All-American Kate Lange. Lange a junior OH from Hibbing, MN, is leading the Northen Sun with 5.72 kills/set. Helping to fuel Lange's success, is freshman S Ashley Hinsch who is third in the Northen Sun with 12.4 assists/set. Holding down the defense for the Bulldogs is sophomore DS Julie Rainey who is 6th in conference with 4.36 digs/set. UMD is currently riding a two game winning streak in which they beat Concordia-St Paul and Minnesota State this past weekend. Both Concordia and Minnesota State are ranked in the AVCA top 10. Last year the Marauders fell to the Bulldogs 3-0 in Duluth.
SCSU is off to a 5-10 start (1-6 NSIC). The Huskies are currently on a five game skid. St Cloud is led Northern Sun player to watch Ellie Dietzen. Dietzen a junior outside hitter is averaging 2.37 kills/set while hitting a team leading .189. Assisting Dietzen is sophomore Erin Ohlemann with 7.76 assists/set. Anchoring the defense for SCSU is freshman DS Brianne Stamer with 4.44 digs/ set. Last weekend Saint Cloud fell to Minnesota-State 3-1 and Concordia 3-0. The Huskies are leading the all-time series 6-2. Last year the Marauders fell 3-2 to the Huskies.
Coming up for U-Mary will be another pair of conference home games. The Marauders will host Minnesota State and Concordia University. Last year U-Mary fell to Minnesota State 3-0. The Marauders fell to the Huskies 3-2.
