Wolves Roll Past Marauders

Box Score Bismarck, ND – A game that looked like it could be a rout early indeed became one, just not the way the home crowd expected. The University of Mary jumped out to a 14-3 lead but Northern State University responded by scoring 55 straight points as the Wolves defeated the Marauders 65-17.
 
In the final home game of the season for U-Mary, the Marauders struck early. On the second drive of the day, Craig Bagnell connected with Elby Pope on a 71 yard touchdown pass just 4:56 into the game.
 
Two drives later, following a Wolves field goal, Bagnell found Tyler Steffan in the end zone from four yards out. The 5-play 75-yard drive pushed the Marauders lead to 14-3 at 5:12 of the opening quarter.
 
The rest of the day belonged to the Wolves. Jared Jacobson connected on scoring strikes of 17 and 66 yards with Chris Morton to take a 17-14 lead early in the second quarter. Just 16 seconds after the second NSU touchdown, Chris Tuch returned an interception 18 yards for a Wolves touchdown. By intermission Northern State was up 37-14.
 
Morton caught his third touchdown of the game in the third quarter and the Wolves would eventually lead 58-14. The Marauders would finally get back on the board when Tyler Ryan booted a 35 yard field goal with 2:42 left in the game.
 
The 65 points scored by the Wolves is the most allowed in a game by the Marauders. The previous high was 55 by St. Cloud State University earlier this season.
 
Pope led the Marauders efforts with seven catches for 109 yards and a score. The Marauders sophomore also returned six kicks for 134 yards, including a long of 38 yards.
 
Bagnell would pass for 201 yards and two scores.
 
Defensively Mikey Ingemansen had two sacks and Nick Giannosa had two tackles for loss for U-Mary in their final home games.
 
Jacobson paced the Wolves offense, throwing for 422 yards and three scores. He also ran for 22. Morton caught six passes for 148 yards and three scores. Mark Hanley had 10 catches for 140 yards and Jordan Piatz added eight catches for 100 yards.
 
Overall the Wolves posted 635 total yards and 28 first downs to 354 and 16 for the Marauders.
 
U-Mary slips to 4-5 overall and in the Northern Sun and 1-4 in the NSIC North. Northern State improves to 5-4 and 4-1.
 
The Marauders begin a two-game road trip at 8th-ranked University of Minnesota Duluth on November 3.
