Box Score Bemidji, Minn. -- Having won the first meeting of the season, the Marauders were looking to finish the series sweep. Unfortunately Bemidji State (4-18, 2-13 NSIC) had other plans as they swept U-Mary 3-0 (22-25, 24-26, 22-25).
Finishing with 13 kills and hitting .346,
Paige Smith had an impressive night for the Marauders.
Bemidji was paced by Bethany Thompson who had a game-high 17 kills.
An attack error by BSU gave the Marauders the lead in the first set at 13-12. The Beavers went on a 3-0 to take back the lead and never looked back. The Marauders were able to tie the game at 15-15 on a
Lauren Boldt ace but another 3-0 run by the Beavers gave them an 18-15 lead. Bemidji went on to win the set 25-22.
The second set proved to be a tight one as well. Back and forth early on, with U-Mary taking the lead at 10-9 on an ace by
Emily Turkowski. From that point on the set saw seven lead changes and no team led by more than two. A kill by Boldt gave the Marauders game point at 24-23, but a 3-0 run by the Beavers gave them the set 26-24.
Trailing 15-13 in the third set, U-Mary went on a run. A pair of
Allison Opp kills sandwiched three consecutive BSU attack errors to give U-Mary an 18-15 lead. Bemidji stopped the run and went on a 5-1 run of their own to take the lead at 20-19. The lead proved to be for good as they went on to win the set 25-22 and the match 3-0.
Turkowski tied her three-set season high of 30 assists in the game. Defensive specialists
Alicia Ewen and
Clare Lulich each added four digs for U-Mary.
The Marauders were out hit in each of the three sets. For the game U-Mary hit .181 to Bemidji's .280.
U-Mary (3-19, 3-12 NSIC) will back in action tomorrow night as they take on Minnesota Crookston at 5 p.m.
