Last week the Marauders extended their winning streak to four with wins over Crookston and Bemidji State. On Saturday U-Mary got on the board early against Minnesota Crookston with three goals in the first eight minutes. The Marauders added two more goals before half and cruised to a 5-1 win. Alex Bachman-Williams scored two goals in the game. On Sunday U-Mary got down 1-0 early and trailed entering half. Bachman-Williams tied the game and Michelle Jones won it with a goal in the 79th minute.
Senior Leadership: On Saturday the Marauders took some time to honor their seniors. All three seniors started, with Ashley Tuschling starting her first game of the year. Tuschling made the most of the opportunity with an assist on the Marauders first goal. Tuschling added a goal of her own, her first of the season, just minutes later. Michelle Jones added her team leading fourth assist of the season and Ashley Akers added five saves.
Finishing Strong: After a rough middle of the season, the Marauders have gotten hot at the right time. After losing five of six games, U-Mary has now won four straight. The Marauders now sit in fifth place in the Northern Sun standings and have an outside chance to host a playoff game.
This week U-Mary will host their final home game of the season. In their second to last game of the season, the Marauders will host Northern State University.
Northern State currently sits at 13th place in the Northern Sun. NSU has struggled this season offensively and defensively. The Wolves have been outscored on the year by a 43-14 margin. One of Northerns wins this season did come over Upper Iowa,who is third in the NSIC. Leading the way for the Wolves this season has been the impressive play of senior F Rachel Goslinga. Goslinga has been a part of 12 of the teams 14 goals with nine goals and three assists. The Marauders are 2-0-1 against the Wolves in the past three years. Last season U-Mary defeated NSU 2-0 in Aderdeen.
Next week the Marauders will finish up their season on the road against Minnesota State Moorhead. Moorhead currently sits at 12th place in the Northern Sun. The Dragons last win came against Crookston and they are currently riding a five game losing streak. U-Mary is 2-0-1 in the past three seasons against MSU-Moorhead. Last year the Marauders defeated the Dragons 3-1 behind two goals by Bachman-Williams.
