Box Score Sioux Falls S.D. – Looking to end a four game conference losing streak, the University of Mary was in action tonight against the University of Sioux Falls (12-11, 4-10 NSIC). Despite being close in every set, the Marauders fell 3-1 the Cougars.
With a season-high 18 kills For U-Mary,
Allison Opp led all players. Opp hit a team high .342.
Sioux Falls saw a trio of players record 10 or more kills.
In the first set the Marauders got down by as much as six. U-Mary clawed their way back into the game and took the lead at 15-14 on one of
Allison Adams' nine kills. The lead did not last for long as the Dragons went on a 3-0 run and took the lead for good. Moorhead took the set 25-22.
U-Mary trailed for majority of the second set. A kill by Opp gave the Marauders their first lead of the night at 21-20. U-Mary would not relinquish the lead as they went on to win the set 26-24.
The second set saw the Marauders control early on. With the lead at 17-14 a service error by U-Mary led to a 5-0 run the MSU-Moorhead to give them the lead at 19-17. The Marauders responded with a run of their own to take the lead back at 20-19. The Dragons were too strong down the stretch though as they went on to win the set 25-23.
The fourth set was a back and forth struggle early on. Tied at 13-13, Moorhead took control of the game and went on an 8-0 run. The Dragons went on to win the set 25-21 and the game 3-1.
Emily Turkowski added a game-high 43 assists.
Valerie Lesu had another good game defensively finishing with 23.
Lauren Boldt added a season-high 15 digs to go with nine kills.
The Marauders were out hit .195 to .184 on the night.
U-Mary (3-16, 3-11 NSIC) will be back in action at Bemidji State on Oct. 26.
