Box Score Minot, N.D. – Going into the night, the University of Mary was looking to defeat Minot State University
(5-17, 1-11 NSIC)
for the second time this season. Unfortunately, MSU had a different idea as they defeated the Marauders 3-1 for their first
conference victory of the season.
Mallory Sall, who finished with game-high 30 kills, led the Beavers on the night.
Paige Smith led the Marauders offensive attack with a team-high 11 kills.
U-Mary trailed almost the entire first set. Down by as much as eight, the Marauders closed the gap and tied the game at
18-18 with a kill by
Allison Opp. A kill by
Morgan Zabel and an ace by
Valerie Lesu put U-Mary up 20-18. The Beavers
responded; however, as they went on to win the set 25-23.
The Marauders trailed almost the entire second set as well, but in the end were in position to take the set. An attack error by
MSU gave U-Mary their first lead of the set at 20-19. A 6-0 streak to end the set by Minot gave them a 25-20 win and a 2-0 lead
in the game.
In the third set, U-Mary took the lead early on after Lesu served up a pair of aces. The two teams went back and fourth as they
played to a 24-24 tie. An attack error by Minot's Sall and a kill by
Lauren Boldt gave U-Mary the game 26-24.
With the momentum on their side, the Marauders were looking to even the game at 2-2. U-Mary took advantage of that
momentum and jumped out by as much as seven at 16-9. Minot chipped away at the lead as they eventually tied the set at 21-21.
The Marauders were not able to stop the bleeding, however, as they went on to fall 25-23 in the set and 3-1 in the game.
Emily Turkowski dished out 36 assists on the night and has averages 9.7 assists per set in the Marauders' last three games.
Lesu added 24 digs and a game-high five service aces for the Marauders.
U-Mary was out hit in three out the four games and overall .224 to .159.
The Marauders (3-16, 3-9 NSIC) will be back in action on Friday as they take on #1 Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall, Minn.
