Box Score Bismarck, N.D. — Facing their second ranked opponent in as many nights, the Marauders volleyball team fell 3-0 to sixth ranked Concordia University.
Kayla Koenecke and Ellie Duff each recorded a match-high 15 kills for Concordia.
Lauren Boldt led U-Mary with eight kills.
Prior to the afternoons match, the Marauders took a few moments to honor their three seniors.
Brianna Smith, a senior from Culver City, Calif has been a valuable part of U-Mary volleyball for the past four years. Smith has put in countless hours making herself and her teammates better.
Valerie Lesu, a transfer from Northwest College, has been key for U-Mary's defense the past two years. The senior libero led the team in digs her first season and is on pace to do so again.
Hailee Walsh, a transfer from Bismarck State College, has been a versatile component for the Marauders for the past three seasons. Walsh has been a key part of the rotation the past two years in multiple roles.
In the first set Concordia jumped out early. After U-Mary scored the first point, CU went on a 7-1 run that forced U-Mary to take a timeout. Unfortunately the Marauders were unable to regroup as they went on to drop the set 25-9.
After a lopsided first set, U-Mary was able to keep the second set close early on. A kill by
Paige Smith tied the set at 9-9. The Golden Bears were just too strong though as they pulled away with a 25-14 win in the second.
U-Mary came out strong again in the third set. A kill Boldt and an attack error by Concordia closed the gap to 20-18. Again the Golden Bears proved to be too strong, however, as they went on a 5-0 run to close the set 25-18 and the game 3-0.
Lesu had another solid night defensively picking up 12 digs. Fellow seniors
Hailee Walsh and
Brianna Smith added four digs and two kills respectively.
On the night the Marauders were outhit .387 to .147.
U-Mary will be back in action on Oct. 16, as they begin a five-game road trip against Minot State. The Marauders defeated Minot 3-0 earlier in the season.
