Haag, Foster Ride to Rescue as Marauders Defeat Dragons for 6th Straight Win

Box Score Bismarck, ND – In a game where both teams struggled to score, the University of Mary women's basketball team received a big spark off the bench by both Kaitlyn Haag and McKenzie Foster as the Marauders ground out a 63-54 win over MSU Moorhead. Haag posted a double-double and Foster hit three treys in the game.

The win was the sixth straight for the Marauders, the most for U-Mary since posting eight consecutive wins in 2004-05. Currently second in the Northern Sun, the Marauders are 10-3 overall and 7-2 in conference play. The Dragons slip to 4-8 and 1-7.

Down by four points in the first half, the Marauders went on a 16-2 run to pull ahead 31-21 in the final minute before intermission. Three three-pointers by Foster keyed the Marauders surge.

The Dragons made a run in the second half, closing within a point at 44-43 with five minutes remaining in the game. A basket by Ali Collins, followed by a three-pointer from Kayla Schmidt and two free throws from Haag built the Marauders cushion to eight points.

Collins would hit five straight free throws in the final 100 seconds to cement the U-Mary win.

Haag came off the bench to lead the Marauders with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Foster finished with 10 points. Collins scored 15 for U-Mary, pulled down six rebounds and led all players with seven assists. Linda Murray powered her way to 13 points in the blocks and eight rebounds as she and Haag controlled the paint for the Marauders.

Angie Jetvig posted 17 points and nine rebounds for the Dragons. Marissa Yernatich added 13 points and Morgan Zabel snared 14 rebounds.

Neither team shot the ball well. U-Mary converted just 30.8 per cent of its shots from the floor and MSUM finished at 25.8 per cent.

The Marauders, who received votes earlier this week in the USA Today ESPN Top 25 Coaches' Poll, finish up a four-game home stand against the University of Minnesota Crookston on Sunday, January 8.
