Box Score Bismarck, ND – Big offensive outbursts by
Linda Murray and
Shaunna Knife led the University of Mary to a 77-59 home win over Bemidji State University. A dominating win on both ends of the floor ensured that the Marauders would stay within a game of first place in the Northern Sun standings.
Murray posted her fourth double double of the season, scoring 23 points and hauling in 12 rebounds. The junior post player made 9-of-15 shots from the field. Defensively the Fresno, CA, native also blocked four shots in the game.
Knife set a season high with 21 points. The junior forward was 7-of-12 shooting the ball, made all five free throw attempts, snared seven rebounds, blocked two shots, dished two assists and had two steals.
Lindsey Sand scored 12 points off the bench. She made two treys, hauled in five rebounds, made three assists and stole the ball three times.
Taylor Davis was the only Beavers player in double figures with 12 points. Kate Warmack added nine points and nine rebounds.
Trailing by five points, the Marauders punched their game into high gear with a 22-3 run to close the opening half with U-Mary leading 36-22. Knife would score nine points during the Marauders outburst.
U-Mary would lead by as many as 22 points and by no fewer than 13 after intermission and the Marauders would roll to the win.
Effective on both ends of the floor, the Marauders shot 46.3 per cent from the field while holding the Beavers to a 31 per cent effort. U-Mary also held a major 43-31 edge in rebounding.
The Marauders improve to 14-4 overall and 11-3 in the NSIC, holding onto third place and one game behind Wayne State and Augustana. The Beavers slip to 7-12 and 5-9.
U-Mary concludes its home weekend against the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs on Saturday, January 28, at 4 PM.
