Logan Flora, who owns collegiate head coaching experience and has strong ties to the Northern Sun, joined the University of Mary men’s basketball coaching staff for the 2012-13 season.
With experience at every level of NCAA basketball, Flora was an assistant coach at the University of Minnesota Duluth the last two seasons. Flora spent one season as head coach at NCAA Division III University of Wisconsin Superior and has also coached at NCAA Division I University of Wisconsin Green Bay.
“When looking for an assistant, it was important to me to find somebody that is loyal, has energy and really wants to work hard,” said Budde. “Logan meets every one of these criteria as a coach. He has been involved in all aspects of a collegiate basketball program and is a huge asset for us. We are happy Logan and his wife Jennie are part of the Marauders family.”
Flora joined Minnesota Duluth for the 2010-11 season and assisted in the development of All-Northern Sun performers Jake Hottenstine and Ryan Rasmussen and NSIC Rookie of the Year Brett Ervin. The Bulldogs improved by three wins in his first year at UMD and by another four wins in his second season.
After joining the University of Wisconsin Superior coaching staff in 2008 as an assistant coach, Flora was promoted to the top spot one year later. As the interim head coach for the Yellowjackets during the 2009-10 season, Flora led UWS to its first winning season in ten years and the second most wins for the program since 1979 after posting a mark of 15-12. While winning four more games than the previous season, the squad made the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference semifinals for only the third time in school history and the team placed in the top four on offense and defense in the league. Wisconsin Superior finished in the top eight in NCAA Division III in free throw percentage, fewest fouls per game and fewest turnovers committed per game and the team also made impressive improvements in field goal defense. Flora helped develop the WIAC MVP and UWS’s all-time leading scorer and the program’s all-time assist leader.
Flora spent two seasons (2006-08) at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay as the director of Basketball Operations and gained experience in recruiting, scouting and academic advising, assisted in practice planning, helped develop players, organized team travel and served as camp director, among other duties.
A University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion, Flora began his coaching career at Northern (SD) State University as a graduate assistant for legendary Coach Don Meyer during the 2005-06 season. The Wolves finished 27-6 and advanced to the NCAA Division II Sweet 16. He earned his master’s degree from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota in 2010.
A graduate of Appleton (WI) West High School where he lettered in basketball, football and track, Flora also coached at the high school level. He filled various roles at Appleton West, Appleton Xavier and Oshkosh North prior to entering the college ranks.
