CALIFORNIA AND NORTH DAKOTA – All-American
Alexis Zeis shattered a school record to earn an automatic berth in the NCAA outdoor championships and a quartet of Marauders recorded one of the top relay times in the nation to highlight another outstanding day for the University of Mary women's track & field team.
Racing at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, CA, Zeis posted a time of 16:23.28 in the 5,000 meter run. The junior, competing in the invitational elite section with some of the best runners in the world, registered an NCAA Division II automatic qualifying time to earn a spot at the outdoor championships. Additionally, her time bested the school mark of Jennifer Agnew, a former national cross country champion, by over 15 seconds. The previous record time was 16:38.55 by Agnew in 2012.
The Marauders 4x400 meter relay team of
Julia Hammerschmidt,
Nelecia Richards,
Melanie Rodriguez and
Tonie-Ann Pandohie finished second at the Azusa Pacific Bryan Clay Invite with a clocking of 3:42.78 seconds. The Marauders rank fourth in the nation. All four runners posted split times of 55 seconds.
Several Marauders also had success at the Dickinson State University Blue Hawk.
Kylie Pastian posted a pair of NCAA provisional qualifying marks. She placed first in the long jump with a top effort of 5.88 meters. She also had a provo distance in the triple jump of 11.75 meters to place second in the event.
Capturing the triple jump was Jamilee Gordon with a provisional distance of 12.15 meters. In a flip flop, Gordon was second in the long jump at 5.67 meters.
Nicolyn Brown picked up two other wins for UMary, winning the 200 meter dash and the 400 meter dash. She ran the 200 in 26.23 seconds and the 400 in 1:00.57/.
Earning the Marauders fifth win was
Hallie Hartnett in the 5,000 meter run in 20:01.05.
In the throwing events,
Kaylyn Frison posted a pair of top three finishes. Her toss of the discuss of 34.32 meters earned her second place. She later finished third in the shot put with a distance of 10.80 meters.
